It has a gently rolling surface, only moderately
dissected by streams, Much of the surface material is unconsolidated
sands deposited in the sea which once covered the area.

The Mississippi Alluvial Plain is a trough filled by stream
sediments of great depth. The surface is generally flat, with
local relief of less than 100 feet. Elevations range from 500
to 100 fe~t, decreasing southward,

Population

1985
2000
2020

420,400
511,600
604,900

Earnings
1967 dollars (thousands)

Agricul ture
Manufacturing

1985
8,500
355,600

2000
9,800
642,600

2020
12,800
1,196,100

In Pulaski County, earnings from crops are about twice those
from livestock, while in Saline County livestock produces approxi-
mately ten times the earnings of crops.

Manufacturing is highly varied in the area.
