Title: Detennine if Cross Mountain Canyon and/or diversion structures are barriers to
pikeminnow passage in the Yampa River.

II. Principal Investigators:

Tim Modde
Colorado River Fish Project
266 W. 100 N., Suite 2
Vernal, UT 84078
801/789-0354, FAX: 801/789-4805

Rick Anderson
Colorado Division of Wildlife
317 W. Prospect
Fort Collins, CO 80526
970/484-2836 x 339

III. Project Summary:

Unusually high summer base flows and the observation of only four Colorado pikerninnow
limited the direct information gained by this study regarding potential barriers that would impede
upstream movement of postspawned, migratory Colorado pikeminnow. Evidence suggested low
flows in early to mid July may be detrimental to spawning, but it is unlikely low base flows are a
factor in preventing passage of postspawning migrant adults.

IV. Study Schedule:
a. Initial year: FY 1996
b. Final year: FY ] 998

V. Relationship to RIPRAP:

Green River Action Plan: Yarnpa River
II. Restore Habitat
ILA. Restore native fish passage at instrearn barriers
II.A.2.
