<br />region;' Asresearehers and managers of native fishes in Grand Canyon, we belieVe that
<br />management ..goals for these popuIations are best achieved through maintenance .and
<br />enhancement of their habitats'bymanaging-thedynamic-.processes, that create and sustain
<br />those habitats. We cOntend that the only sensibIe basis for mailllgementofthe- native fishes
<br />iS~a cIear'iindefstanding and acceptance of their evoIutionllJ)' history, and adoption of an
<br />Opeiatioiiai sCheme that will function within the constraints of that history (see Meffe 1992).
