~

.

.

co
~ development in the Head Lake-San Luis Lake area, water deliveries to Alamosa
~
~ National Wildlife Refuge, a request by Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for deli-
e

very of project water to the Blanca Wildlife Habitat Area, and fishery enhan-

cement considerations for the proposed conveyance channel. Resolution of a

revised mitigation and enhancement plan is expected this spring.

Advanced planning studies have also progressed on the proposed eonveyance chan-

nel and Stage 1-2 laterals. Analysis eompleted last spring of hydraulic conduc-

tivity data collected earlier indicated that only minor leakage would occur from

an unlined channel, thus it is not planned to line the conveyance channel. In

August a soils-sampling contract was completed along the southern portion of the

conveyance channel alinement, and last winter some possible construction alter-

natives for a channel crossing of the Blanca Wildlife Habitat Area were sent to

BLM and FWS for comment. Lateral designs for a portion of the Stage 1-2 well

field laterals were completed last summer for technical review by our Denver

staff. Award of contracts for the Stage 1-2 channels and laterals are scheduled

for the first quarter of fiscal year 1983.

Long-term test pumping has continued in the Stage 3 area and, under our eoopera-

tive program with the U.S. Geological Survey, colleetion and analyses of hydro-

logic data are continuing. These analyses include computer modeling of aquifer

characteristics and water-table drawdowns to develop preliminary well-field

designs for Stage 3. Installation of additional test wells in Stage 3 area is

scheduled for this summer. Work has also begun on preparation of a supplement

to the Final Environmental Statement which was filed in August 1979. Filing of

a Draft Supplement to the Environmental Impact Statement, scheduled for the last

quarter of fiscal year 1982, is required to permit anticipated start of

eonstruction of Stage 3 well-field facilities that same quarter.
