<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br />~ RIO GRANDE PROJECT, NEW MEYICO-TEXAS <br />.-l <br />t.:.,:t <br />~I The Rio Grande Project Offiee in El Paso, Texas, is responsible for O&M of <br /> <br />reserved works along the Rio Grande including Elephant 6utte Dam and Powerplant, <br /> <br />Caballo Dam, and diversion struetures. <br /> <br />Water Supply Conditions <br /> <br />The eombined storage in Elephant Butte and Caballo Reservoirs on January 17 at <br /> <br />the beginning of the 1980 irrigation season was 1,037,220 aere-feet. The <br /> <br />distriet's began their season with the full allotment of 3.0 aere-feet per aere, <br /> <br />which is 100 pereent of a full entitlement. <br /> <br />Combined storage in Elephant Butte and Caballo Reservoirs was 1,038,320 aere- <br /> <br />feet on February 4, 1981, when release of 600 ft3/s was begun for the El Paso <br /> <br />County Water Improvement Distriet (EPCWID) No.1. The Rio Grande Projeet water <br /> <br />in storage is above average for this time of the year. Thus, a full allocation <br /> <br />ean be given to the Republie of Mexico and to the two districts. <br /> <br />Irrigation and Drainage System <br /> <br />The Service eontinued to operate and maintain the distribution and drainage <br /> <br />facilities within the EPCWID through September 1980. Responsibility for <br /> <br />O&M of these facilities was assumed by the EPCWID on Oetober I, 19RO. <br /> <br />Responsibility for O&M of similar facilities within the New Mexieo portion of <br /> <br />the project was assumed by the Elephant Butte Irrigation Distriet (EBID) on <br /> <br />January 1, 1979. <br /> <br />The Serviee will continue to operate and maintain storage reservoirs and diver- <br /> <br />sions dams beeause of the two State entities involved and international water <br />
