Nambe Falls Dam began to spill on April 8, 1980, and <br /> <br />spill eontinued for 87 days. The peak elevation of 6,826.92 during 1980 pro- <br /> <br />dueed a rate of spill estimated to be 85 ft3/s. The spillway erest elevation is <br /> <br />6,826.60. <br /> <br />Irrigation releases for the year amounted to 1,350 aere-feet. Monthly water <br /> <br />storage and releases for Nambe Falls Reservoir are shown on table 5. <br /> <br />SAN LUIS VALLEY PROJECT, COLORADO <br /> <br />Platoro Dam and Reservoir <br /> <br />In the spring of 1980 the reservoir was drawn down to aeeommodate predicted <br /> <br />flood inflow due to high snow depths. <br /> <br />Minimum elevation during this time was <br /> <br />9,971.8--14,099 aere-feet. <br /> <br />THe dam was operated during the runoff season for <br /> <br />flood eontrol under the direetion of the Corps of Engineers and after the flood <br /> <br />season releases were made as requested by Colorado. ~lood and conservation <br /> <br />storage increased the elevation to 10,015.4--42,869 acre-feet. Exeept for flood <br /> <br />control storage and eonservation storage oeeurring in the spring, natural flow <br /> <br />of the river was passed through the dam during the 1980 irrigation season. <br /> <br />The releases from Platoro were set last fall and were adjusted periodieally <br /> <br />during the winter months of 1980-1981 to pass inflow.
