fJJJ213

.

Kinnikinick Af'terbay and Dam

This 1'eat1lI'e would function as an a:rterbay to regulate the
fluctuating power releases :passing through Idylwil.de Powerpla.nt.
The concrete ogee-type overflow dam would have a crest length of
300 feet and a height above stream bed of 55 feet. The ca:pacity of
the reservoir would be about 1,DOO acre~feet.

Rustic Diversion Dam

Releases from Kinn:l.kinick Af'terbay with a minimum of fluctu-
ation would flow downstream approximately eight mil.es to the Rustic
Diversion Dam. This structure would serve to divert water from the
stream channel into Elkhorn Conduit. Rustic Diversion Dam would
have an ogee crest at about elevation 6,930, 15 feet above the
:present stream bed; a river outlet through a sluice lY>te, a down-
stream river gage and headworks wi"th measuring device for the
Elkhorn Conduit. An earth wing dike is required on the right
abutment.

Elkhorn Conduit

This struct1lI'e would convey wa"ter from Rustic Diversion Dam
to Cache ]a Poudre Forebay, It would consist of wo free-flow
. tunnel secUons each 4-1/2 :miles long, separated by a short siphon
across Elkhorn Creek; a 9,000-foot long cu"t and cover section; and
a 4,700-foot long high-head siphon across Hewle"t"t Gulch. The conduit
would have a maximum capa.ci"ty of 300 cfs with an average operation of
- . - - . - - - - about- 250- CfB. _ }I9~El. ci~t_ailed studies may indicate tha"t a ell version
dam to divert flows :from Elliliorn -Creek 'would- be. feasible.

Cache 1.a. Poudre Forebay and Dam

The site of the proposed forebay is about 15 airline miles
northwest 01' Fort Collins, Colorado. It is about 2 miles north
and over 1,000 feet above "Columbine," a community situated in the
Poudre River Cany-on. The dam structure would be earth and rock-
fill, having a crest length of approximately 750 feet and height
above stream bed of 150 feet. A dike 70 feet in height with a
crest length of ll-50 feet situated northwest of the main dam would
also be required. The crest elevation of both the dam and dike
would be 6,810 feet. Spillway requirements are small and will be
afforded from the inlet canaJ..

The forebay would have an active capacity of 4,600 acre-feet.
Dead storage space 110uld be about 800 acre-feet. The normal water
surface area is 95 acres and minilllum water surface area is 30 acres.

.

6
