17

.

1 the Bureau of Reclamation has cond~nned productive agricultural
2 land in order to create more productive agricultural land, and
3 all this at the expense of hundreds and millions of dollars.
4 Right now in northeastern Colorado the Narrows Project is under
5 fire because it will put under water a lot of productive farm
6 land. You know, here's people ",ho have lived there all their
7 lives. They're getting their land taken from them and getting
8 what the government feels it's worth for it, and all this at

9 taxpayers' expense.

10 So, it seems to me that the Bureau of Reclamation has

11 . a powerful lobby in ,.;ash1ngton to pass pork barrel legislation
12 to get this done. This keeps them busy, it keeps them occupied,
13 but the small person who gets bumped on these projects is just
14 one of the small costs involved.' The bigger cost is to the
15 taxpayer in the long run.
16 Like I say, Milly K. Goodwin Lake, which will be in Big

.

.

17 Soap Park. is narned for 1.1illy K. Goodwin, of course. She used
.
18 to live in the area of Big Soap Park for a long time and raised
19 and ran her cl.'lttle up there until she was a very old lady. r
20 visited her cabin where she used to live. r think if ahe'were

21
22
23
24
25

here today, she would be appalled at the thought that they would

put this nice beautiful valley, you know, it's like a beautiful

setting out of the old west, you know, or a TV show anyway, and

horo they're going to put this under water and name it after

her,. t l1nd .I thlnk n:h~ ,,Jnn'l,,1n'.J.. -.!h,....'n.,...^_~_........... "''-_.L. _ o. ...... ._
