There has to be some practical

thinking. It can't all be ono-sided. You have got to be realis

tic. And I'll tell you, ft!llows and.'ladies and gentlemen, this

report is not realiatic.

So, an. item that

appeared in the paper the other day, itl
It says, when is the Bureau -- not the I.

says man-made disaster.

in areas that geologists have warned against?

I'm very familiar ''lith Big SQap Creek Park. he have

owned it for six years. I know about all the slide areas. They.

refer to those slide areas. I. would hate to be one of those

one hundre~campers they'll provide room for below the dam. In

fact, I think the Bureau should be required to post a great big

i5

huge sign, "Camp here at your own risk. You're t,,,o miles below

16

a 200 foot high' earthen dam. ~-Ie assume no responsibility." I

think they should be required to put that up there and I don't

18

speak about tha t wi th tongue in cheek.

so, ladies.and gentlemen, r'm not opposed to progress,

but I'm aure opposed to spending taxpayers' money needlessly.

I think you can accomplish the same thing -- if they want to

accomplish something really worthwhile, let. the government go

out here and buy Fruitland Mesa in its entirety, pay the land

owners four or five timea, what it's worth, their land holdingS,

pay them ten times what it's worth, leave it as' it is, let it
