Lake deposit samples. Fourteen samples of deposited sediment

were taken between Ranges 5 and 13 during the Harch 1972 resurvey, Seven

samples were taken in the channel in shallOW water and seven samples

were taken on the overbank surface near the channel. Another 24 'samples

were taken in June 1972 hetween the dam and Range 5, Four samples rang-

wg in depth from surface to 5 feet were taken at each of six locations.

All samples were tested for particle size, moisture content, and amount

of soi 1 soli4s.' Results of the tests for soi 1 solids and particle size

are presented in table 9. Density probe readings with radioisotope were

not taken during this resurvey.

29. Degradation range survey. A summation of the aggradation and

degradation from John ~Iartin Reservoir to Lamar, Colorado, a distance of

approximately 23 miles, is presented in table 10. Location of the degrada-

tion ranges is shown on plate 17 and, profiles of the ranges are shown on

plates 18, 19, and 20. Graphic results of the degradation surveys are

presented on plate 21 and a summary of degradation and aggradation is

shown on plate 22. The aggradation between the latest surveys was the

result of a combination of circumstances. The mean daily flow of the

Arkansas River at Lamar, Colorado for the 54 year period of record was

218 c.f.s. but the flow for the period from 1967 through 1971 averaged

13
