o

.....

l\;l
QO
l\)
t\J

flow from seepage and wasteways of irrigation canals. There are losses

due to evapotranspiration and absorption by the sediment beds. When

irrigation storage has been exhausted and the reservoir becomes dry.

evaporation occurs from the wet deposits, and returns to the low-flow

channel by seepage are small.

15. Because of the ungaged inflows, it would be difficult to accu-

rately determine reservoir losses. The net effect of ungaged inflow and

reservoir losses is the difference between the inflow and outflow figures

shown in table 2. This table shows the average annual inflow to the

reservoi r for the period l~)~ 3 through \Iarch 1972 to be 214,135 acre- feet

and the outflO\; for the period to be 198,903 acre-feet. When adjusted

for storage there would be a net loss of 15,232 acre-feet annually for the

period of operation.

16,. Reservoir sediment range survey. The general plan of the reser-

voir area showing the location of sediment ranges is shown on plate 3. The

field work for the 1972 resurvey was completed in I,larch. Range lines above

the water or in shalloW water were surveyed by conventional land methods

and submerged areas were resurveyed by sonic sounder below elevation 3,801.
,

There were 21 ranges profiled "entirely by land methods and six ranges where

sonic sounding was necessary. The survey extended to the nearest monument

above elevation 3,835 feet,'the highest water surface elevation attained

during the period covered by the resurvey. The resurvey included rang'es

from the dam through Range 17 on the Arkansas River, Range 22 on the
'-y-o

Purgatoire River, and Range 30 on Rule Creek.

8
