Irrigation development
within the area has reflected the dive}:'sity both of water source areas and of
&Uitable irrigable lands. Climatic variations within the subbasin have been
important in determining the dominant cropping patterns and development of
~hedifferent irrigated areas.

Part of this subbasin has the most intensely developed water~supply systems
of the entire Gunnison River Basin. Approximately l~ lakes and reservoirs,
lar~ly on Grand Mesa, have been constructed or rehabilitated to store water
fOr late-season use.
