00lJ7~

INTRODUCTION

This report supports the Mountain Plains Federal Regional Council publi-
cation, Socioeconomic Impacts and Federal Assistance in Energy Development
Impacted Communities, Federal Region VIII, distributed in July of 1975.
The report includes complete data relevant to that section of the earlier
report on Federal funding assistance to energy development impacted communi-
ties during FY 1975.
Federal assistance was classified as direct and indirect. For the
purpose of this report, direct funding refers to those Federal grants and
loans which were identified as going directly to the energy impacted communi-
ties; indirect funding is identified as those grants and loans received
by State and regional programs of benefit to imoacted communities.
Federal assistance as listed in this report is limited to discretionary
funding. Discretionary funding refers to either project grants. direct
payments, direct loans, guaranteed loans, or provision of specialized
services.
In the introduction Table A summarizes the subseauent data. Also
included in the introduction is a listing of R & D and technical assistance
projects having a long-range benefit for impacted communities.
Parts I and II, respectively, are summaries of direct and indirect
Federal funding to the communities. The tables within Parts I and II are
presented in a composite form and by individual states.
Parts III and IV, respectively, are tables displaying direct and in-
direct Federal funding to the communities. Part III represents communi~y/
agency direct funding. Part IV represents state wide Dr county/agency
indirect funding to impacted communities.
