It would

supply supplemental irrigation water, provide lU'gently needed
rlood control, increase recreational opportunities, enhance rish

and wildlire resources, and improve the downstream water ~uality.

Should the need arise, some or the conserved water could be

converted rrom irrigation to municipal and industrial use. It
might also be possible to provide some s:J.pplementalirrigation
water for upstream lands through exchange procedures although no
speciric plans ror such exchanges have been rormulated.

Storage water would be released as necessary from the

reservoir to supplement the irrigation supplies within the 166,370-
acre irrigated service area or the Lower South Platte Water
Conservancy District. This supplemental irrigation water, estimated
to average 119,400 acre-reet annually, would have a very ravorable

impact on the overall economy or the area.

r

A water budget is attached which shows the average annual
historical water supply (for the representative period 1947-1961)
without the Narrows Reservoir and the supply anticipated with the
Narrows Reservoir in operation. The Bureau or Reclamation estimates
that irrigation benerits rrom the supplemental water would average
$1,631,500 annually.
