trans mountain diversions. This source will add 70 percent of the
amount brought over from the Western Slope to the basin supply less
the amount used to replace exchanged water. Metropolitan Denver is
the major municipality deriving a supply from ihis source.

Since the major effect on the main stem is derived from the
return flow of metropolitan Denver, it may be well to discuss this
effect in detail.

Exhibi t 10 shows a graph of the expected growth of the Denver
Metropolitan Area. This graph includes the Clear Creek complex,
which has a separate source of supply.

To meet future demands, the metropolitan area has a supply
derived from Denver's presently decreed rights of 210,000 acre-
feet, Aurora's presently decreed rights of 35,000 acre-feet, and
Englewood's presently decreed rights of 14,000 acre-feet, for a
total of 259,000 acre-feet per year.

It has been found that Denver can exchange 45,000 acre-feet
of the present annual flow in the South Platte between Waterton and
Denver.

Thus, we have an incremental supply of 259,000 acre~feet imported
plus 45,000 acre-feet derived from exchange for a future additional
supply of 304,000 acre-feet.

Now, as you may recall, the period of the intermediate level
study is defined as the year in which, the demand by the Denver,
Metropolitan Area is equal to its presently decreed Western Slope
rights. The determination of this year will be discussed next.

In the year of full utilization of presently decreed rights
Denver will have a demand for 293,000 acre-feet of the 304,000 acre-
feet total. Using the consumption rate of 236 gallons per capita per
day, the 293,000 acre-feet will serve a population of 1,110,000
persons.

31

Aurora will need 4,500 acre~feet per year at 135 gallons per
capita per day to serve a population of 29,800 persons. Englewood
could use 6,$00 acre~feet per year, at 188 gallons per capita per
day, to serving 32,200 persons.

Therefore, we have supplies to meet the demands for 1,172,000
additional people.

Since supplies from these sources serve all but 21 percent of
the total metropolitan area, we find that at the year when presently
decreed rights would be fully utilized, the increased population of
metropolitan Denver will be, 1,480,000 persons.
