Gontinuing urban growth is not possible
without a good water supply, particularly in a semi-arid region such as ours.
Develo~ment of an adequate water su~~ly with ~otential for the future must be
a .cont; n u i ng process an d cannot be approached on a pi ecemea I bas is.

Federal assistance in the development of water faci I ities is ava; lable for
~rojects that are consistent with a ~rogram for a unified or officially
coordinated areawide water faci I ities system as part of the comprehensively
planned development of an urban area. After July I, 1968, however, the
federal grants of up to 50 percent of el igible development costs wil I not
be available unless an are?wide water development program exists.

In I ight of the importance of water to the Denver Region and its economy, the
growing concern over the adequacy of available water suppl ies, and the imminent
loss of avai lable federal assistance, it is imperative that the water supply
agencies in the Region proceed with the analysis phase of the water study lead-
ing toward a unified, cooperative solution to long range water supply for the
Region.

The Metropol itan Water Study Inventory is the first and necessary step in the
preparation of a regional water system plan and program. Your comments on the
inventory and the regional approach to the water supply problem are invited.

- "~:: Q

Tom Currigan ~
Cha i rman .;

~
