<br />Thomas H. Blythe settled in Palo Verde Valley, probably <br />making first California use of Colorado River water. <br />O. M, W ozencraft and Ebenezer Hadley proposed irrigation <br />and colonization of 3,000,000 acres in Imperial Valley, using <br />canal route through Mexico via Alamo River. <br />July 17. Thomas H. Blythe made first filing on Colorado <br />River water for use on his Blythe Rancho in Palo Verde <br />Valley. <br />Construction of Imperial Canal started by California Devel- <br />opment Company following the Alamo River for 50 miles <br />through Mexico. <br />June 17. Federal Reclamation Act approved. <br />November. Colorado River broke into Imperial Valley <br />causing great damage and creating widespread consciousness <br />of need for flood control on the river. <br />February. Colorado River break finally closed. <br />Congress appropriated $50,000 for study of entire Colorado <br />River Basin. <br />February. Agreement executed between United States <br />and Imperial Irrigation District for construction of the AII- <br />American CanaL <br />.June. Issuance of report by John T. Whistler, engineer, <br />U. S. Bureau of Reclamation, recommended storage projects <br />on upper Colorado River totaling 10,000,000 to 12,000,000 <br />I acre-feet. <br />~, ___192g_Nevember~Preliminary -repore 611 problems- oJ'InlperIaf -- <br />I Valley and vicinity transmitted by Director A.
