Data Summary

By Robert Brennan and Richard U. Grozier

ABSTRACT

Salt-load computations for the inflow and outflow stations in the Grand
Valley area of Colorado have been computed using five methods. The salt-load
increase of the Colorado River from the Grand Valley has been computed for the
Colorado-Utah State 1 ine station and the Colorado River near- Cisco, Utah, sta-
tion. Most of the salt ioads give values about +30 percent of the average Tor
all methods used, but differences of 70 percent do occur.

INTRODUCTION

The U.S. Soil Conservation Service requested the U.S. Geological Survey
to: (1) Make available all daily specific-conductance data not previously
publ ished, (2) analyze the streamflO\oJ and water--qual ity data statistically,
through duration and regression analyses, and (3) make salt-load computations
for the Colorado River from near Cameo, Colo., to near Cisco, Utah. The in-
formation has been compiled into two reports, one a summary of the data and
the other a basic-data report consisting of computer tables containing the
results of standard computations made by the computer.

With current interest in reducing the sal t load in the Colorado River
system, computations were made using available U.S. Geological Survey data to
designate areas of data deficiency. Salt-load computations for the inflow and
outflow stations ha\e been computed by five methods, and the salt-load in-
crease from the Grand Valley area has been computed.

Records presented in the basic-data report are regression curves of dis-
. charge versus specific conductance and of specific conductance versus calcium,
magnesium, har-dness, sodium, bicarbonate, chloride, dissolved solids, and sul-
fate; duration tables of daily discharge and of daily specific conductance for
the period of record; and the daily specific-conductance data for the period
of record for all stations in the study area.

_. ..!.... --.....---.

"_U". .,._,_._~_______~___~_ ...Ioi...

"-
