The project

would also develop an average of 44,000 acre-feet annually of muni-

cipal and industrial water and 500 acre-feet of water for fish

and wildlife use exclusively.

The San Miguel project will cost approximately $71.3

million. Of this, approximately $63.6 million will be repaid to

the federal government and $384,000 has been prepaid by power

revenUes from the Colorado River Development Fund and private

sources, leaving only about $7.3 million nonreimbursable.

The benefit-cost ratio of this project is 1.52 to 1.

Hearings have been held by the Subcommittee on Irrigation and

Reclamation of the House committee on Interior and Insular Affairs.

It is endorsed by the upper Colorado River commission, the State of

colorado, and individuals, service organizations and public bodies

in the project area. To the best of my knowledge there is no oppo-

sition to this project.

The San Biguel water Conservancy District will enter

into repayment contracts for the reimbursable irrigation features

of the project. It is anticipated that the Colorado Department of

Game, Fish and parks will guarantee the reimbursable recreation

and fish and wildlife features, and that private industry and the

municipalities in the area will contract for the municipal and

industrial water. I therefore urge the projects committee of this

San Miguel Project -3-
