These <br />practices will reduce deep percolation which dissolves <br />salts from saline soils underlying irrigated fields and <br />carries them into the river. Total installation costs are <br />estimated at $10,350,000; Landowners will pay 30 percent <br />of construction costs. The project will reduce salt load <br />in the river system by 18,700 tons each year, compared to <br />the future without a project, at a cost to the federal <br />government of about $38 per ton. This document is intended <br />to fulfill requirements of the National Environmental <br />Policy Act. <br /> <br />January 1993 <br /> <br />003127 <br />
