However, <br />even the minimal losses become important during periods of low flow. <br /> <br />VII I RECOr~MENDATIONS <br /> <br />It is recommended that: <br /> <br />1. The Costilla Creek diversion structure be constructed at a <br /> <br />location apprOXimately 60 feet downstream from the existing struc- <br /> <br />ture; that there is incorporated in the design of the structure sand <br />slots and waste lines, or other desanding provisions; and that the <br /> <br />design is not dependent on support from solid abutments or founda- <br /> <br />tion. <br /> <br />2. Cerro Canal be lined from the diversion structure downstream <br /> <br />to the highway crossing, a distance of apprOXimately 2000 feet, if <br /> <br />funds are available. This portion of the project should have a pri- <br /> <br />ority junior to that assigned to construction of the diversion struc- <br /> <br />ture. <br /> <br />3. Canal or ditch linings that may be constructed in the future <br /> <br />have provision for sediment basins. <br /> <br />4. A study be conducted in the near future to determine effects <br /> <br />and cost of a small reservoir just upstream of the diversion structure. <br />
