Farmers spend $36 billion a year in the U.S. for goods and services to pro- <br />duce crops and livestock, and another $12 billion in consumer goods. <br /> <br />. Each year in the U.S., farmers purchase: <br /> <br />$4.8 billion in new tractors, machinery and vehicles. <br />$3.7 Billion for fuel, lubricants and maintenance - <br />More than any other industry. <br /> <br />$2.2 Billion for commercial fertilizers. <br /> <br />$3.2 Billion KWH of electricity - enough for Chicago, Baltimore, <br />Boston, Detroit and Washington, D.C. <br /> <br />360 Million pounds of rubber products - the equivalent <br />of tires for 7-1/2 million automobiles. <br /> <br />. Three out of every 10 jobs in private employment are related to agriculture. <br /> <br />. The investment in agriculture is mare than $200 billion - Equal to two- <br />thirds of the value of the current assets of All corporations in the United <br />States. <br />
