'l'he

additional 5 months of canal flows extends the period in

which the canals pose a threat to wildlife. The impact of

the hydroelectric projects on wildlife will be monitored,

and mitigative measures considered if nece~sary. In

particular, to minimize the entrapment of deer and elk in

the canal, and to facilitate their migration across the

canal, bridged crossings could be provided at several

preferred locations, as informally discussed with the

Colorado Division of Wildlife. The applicant proposes to

coordinate details of the design and location of these

crossings with the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the

Fish and Wildlife Service during the licensing phase of the

projects.

F. Imoacts ~ ~ IrriRation Project
During the irrigation season, operation of each of the six
hydroelectric projects will not affect the primary purpose
of the canals, that being irrigation. Similar flows will
still be supplied to the various laterals, ditches and
canals as is now done. The only difference is that the

water will be temporarily diverted around the existing drop

E-35
