<br />I <br /> <br />OJ:102 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />and wild rose, <br /> <br />occur along river bottom lands, <br /> <br />irrigation <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />ditches, and drains, or in areas where irrigation water col- <br /> <br />lects. <br /> <br />Tree-dominated wetlands consist primarilY of cotton- <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />wood groves located along waterways accompanied by an under- <br /> <br />story of shurbs, Corbs, and grasses. <br /> <br />Narrow-leafed emergent <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />wetlands <br /> <br />include salt grass, <br /> <br />juncus, <br /> <br />and carex found in <br /> <br />association with irrigation canals and laterals <br /> <br />and seep <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />areas. <br /> <br />Broad-leafed emergent wetlands include <br /> <br />cattails, <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />bulrush, and phragmites and are associated with standing <br />1 <br />water from river systems or from irrigation practices. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />A wetlands inventory conducted for the Lower Gunn~son Basin <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Unit investigation identified about 22,000 acres of wetlands <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />within <br /> <br />the study area ranging in size from less than 1 acre <br /> <br />to 860 <br /> <br />acres. <br /> <br />Tree-dominated wetlands are most common fol- <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />lowed <br /> <br />by narrow-leafed emergent, <br /> <br />shrub-dominated, and then <br /> <br />broad-leafed emergent wetlands. <br /> <br />Wetlands in the study area <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />result from natural water sources, <br />1 <br />management practices. <br /> <br />canals, <br /> <br />and irrigation <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Natural wetlands are primarily supported by the Gunnison and <br /> <br />Uncompahgre Rivers and their tributaries in the study area. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Irrigation management wetlands are supported by,water from <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />primary laterals, <br /> <br />on-farm ditches, <br /> <br />field runoff, <br /> <br />and open <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />E-16 <br /> <br />I <br />
