mRODUCTION

This paper has been prepared as a quick reference guide for persons
having.an interest in the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. It is divided
into two parts:

I. Outline of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act

n. Legal Opinions on the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act

The Outline is self-explanatory. Part II, Legal Opinions, provides
answers to some of the questions that have arisen regarding the inter-
pretation of various sections or phrases of the Act, It is not a
comprehensive. analysis of the Act, but rather a compilation of.Depart-
ment of the Interior legal responses to BOR requests for clarification
of certain issues. As such, it addresses many of the significant
elements of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.
