00068~

GENERAL PLAN OUTLINE AND INITIATION SCHEDULES

The program objectives and goals will largely be realized
through field experiments and accompanying analyses and
assessments beginning in May 1974. A 5-year research
effort at several instrumented field sites is planned.

Possible Field Areas
Seven possible areas for conducting the field research
have been tentatively identified by the Bureau of Reclamation.
Responses to the February 19, 1973 letter sent to the ten
Governors of the High Plains States may identify other
possible areas, and further areas may be identified through
the design studies. These seven areas are:
1. Easterh Montana - An area with relatively little
recent cloud seeding history, but where interest in
well-directed research, rather than immediate appli-
cation, is increasing.
2. Western North Dakota - Site of Project Skywater's
North Dakota Pilot Project and active commercial
hail suppression and rain augmentation projects.
An interest in large-scale application and accom-
panying research is becoming more evident in the State.

29
