At some of the stations, it was not possible to
obtain evaporation records throughout the winter period.

The measurements of evaporation were made in accordance with standard practice for the
type of pan in use. Measurements or precipitation were made in standard 8-inch rain gages.
which were supplemented at some of the stations by recording rain gages.

Records for the evaporation stations at the State University, Elephant Butte Dam, and
El Vade Dam antedated the creation of the Commission; the station at Bosque del Apache was
established for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service; the stations at Abiquiu Darn. Cochiti Dam,
and Jemez Canyon Dam were established by the corps of Engineers. All others were established
at the request of the Commission.

The Rio Grande Compact Commission gratefully acknowledges the cooperation of the U. ~.
Environnental Science Services Administration, U.S. Corps of Engineers. and U.S. Bureau of
Reclamation for furnishing the climatological records contained in this report.

Wa~on Wheel Gap.--Lat 37046', long 106049', in Mineral County near Creede, Colo.
