ManufacturinR: Growth in the manufacturing industry is expected
to t~ke place in both the durable and nondurable goods categories.
The manufacture of nondurable goods is expected to remain predominant
in the area due to its raw material production of agricultural and
timber products. In view of present and proposed water and power
development projects, the area is expected to be in a competitive
position to attract selected manufacturing industries which serve
nonlocal markets.

.

Tourist-Qriented Industries: Continued expansion in retail
trades and services is expected as a result of recreational activity,
and from expected increases in the basic industries. Recreational
activity is expected to play an important role in the area's economy
throughout the projection period.

Other Couunercial and Government Activities: Growth in the
construction, transportation, utilities, and finance sectors is
expected in proportion to anticipated growth in the basic industries.
Construction activity is expected to increase sharply during the
initial period as a result o~ Federal activities and its related
impacts followed by a decline and further expansion coincident with
the area's overall economic growth. Increases in the Government
sector will be influenced by anticipated Federal multipurpose water
storage projects, increased local and state government activities,
and expansion in planning and management of Federally-owned lands.

18
