.'J. Surface water supplies must he developed to meet the anticipated
water quality and quantity needs if economic development is to
occur.

4. Before any recreational use is permitted of Ridgway Reservoir,
the City of 'Ouray, Colorado, must provide secondary treatment
df'its sewage.

5. Annual:average concentrations of total dissolved solids will
be reduced about 5% at Coloria and increased about 30% at Delta
under project operation.

'6. The combined flow of the Uncompahgre River above Ridgway,
DaUasCreek and diversions from Cow Creek stored in Ridgway
Reservoir will provide a raw water s\1pply for municipal purposes
meetingthePliblic Health Service Drinking Water Standards.
Calculations indicate that expected concentrations of sulfate,
total dissolved solids and hardness would be about 150 mg/l,
300 mg/l, and 200 mg/l, respectively.

7. As heavy metals previously precipitated in the Ridgway Reservoir
will go back into solution under anaerobic conditions a two-level
municipal water supply intake is recommended at Ridgway Reservoir.
This wilt provide greater flexibility in operation of the intake
!', and permit drawing-off of the better quality water.

8. Consideration should be given by the Bureau of Reclamation to'
inclusion of Irontan Park Reservoir in the Dallas Creek Project
to bring about a reduction in acid mine drainage pollution. In
addition to intangible benefits associated with the domestic
water supply, this reservoir would provide tangible water quality
benefits for fishing and recreation amounting to $49,300 annually.

9. Based upon hiEltorical streamflow data, 1939-.62,. existing water
quality could be maintained at Delta under project conditions
about 20 percent of the time if monthly flows shown in Column 8
of Table XI are provided, Historical streamflows are insufficient
to maintain 1,000 mg/l of total dissolved solids at Delta, wit~oue
or with the Dallas Creek Project. Existing evidence does not
jus.ttfy the inclusion of water supply storage in Ridgway Reservoir
for regubtion af streamfiow for the purpose of water quality
control in the Uncompahgre River, therefore, no monetary value
hall been 4ss.i8ned.

4
