<br />Page 1 <br /> <br />Q <br />N 1.0 INTRODUCTION <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />The geothermal resources of the Glenwood Springs area have been used for recreation and <br />"healing" by non-natives for over a century. However, it has been only during the last decade <br />or so that the Glenwood Springs geothermal system has been recognized as a major contributor <br />to the salinity loading of the Colorado River system (US Bureau of Reclamation, 1983). It has <br />been estimated that this system (including the Dotsero area) contributes about 440,000 tons of <br />salt per year to the river as a result of both the high salinity and high artesian flow rate of the <br />geothermal system (Eisenhauer, 1986). <br /> <br />This document discusses the hydrogeology of the Glenwood Springs area, based on the following <br />information: <br /> <br />1. Numerous geologic and salinity investigations, <br />2. Geothermal production well installation and testing, and <br />3. Long-term monitoring of various aspects of the system. <br /> <br />A consistent conceptual model is developed incorporating all available data and observations and <br />is used to predict probable responses to various proposed stresses to the system. <br /> <br />Mlclulel J.
