of a large portion of the generating costs and at the same time
give the District first call on the generating equipment and the fall-
ing water required for its operation,
The capacity of the 230-kv transmission system exceeds present
District needs and is adequate to meet such needs for many years
in the future. Transmission capacity in excess of current District
use is being fully utilized to transmit power for the Southern Cali-
fornia Edison Company and others. The monetary returns from
such service reduce the net cost of transmitting power for District
use, while the District retains first call on all of its transmission
capacity should it be required for the operation of the aqueduct
project.
The following tabulations indicate the extent to which the gen-
erating equipment assigned to the use of the District at Hoover
Dam and the transmission Jines owned and operated by the District
are being used for the benefit of parties other than the District.
