Water and Related Resource Development

The water resources in the Colorado River Basin are derived from the
Colorado River and its tributaries. The dams and reservoirs on the river
contribute a great many resources to people in the Basin.

In addition to Hoover, Davis, and Parker Dams in the Lower Basin of the
main stem Colorado River, Reclamation (Bureau of Reclamation) has built six
large dams in the Upper Basin to store water for municipal and industrial
uses, irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, recreation, fish and
wildlife, and river regulation. These are the Glen Canyon on the Colorado
River in northeastern Arizona; Flaming Gorge on the Green River in north-
eastern Utah; Navajo on the San Juan in northwestern New Mexico; and Blue
Mesa, MorrQw Point, and Crystal Dams on the Gunnison River in western
Colorado. 'Many smaller private and federally owned dams throughout the
Basin aid in controlling the Colorado River and tributaries, adding
to the multipurpose benefits from Reclamation facilities along the stream's
full length.

II-II
