o
,-)
N
c.o
.....
c.o

population was 26'.6 gallons per day. Applying this consumptive rate

against the population figure resulted in,a depletion of 833 acre-feet

per year. The 1980 level of depletion was estimated at 1,611 acre-feet

per year which is based on an estimated population of 39,300 and an assumed

per capita consumptive use of 37 gallons per day.

Interpolation between the 1966 and 1980 levels of depletion results in

the values shown in Table 1.

A report from the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority of water consump-

tion during 1979 from NTUA systems gave the following:

Location
Chinle
Tsaile
Many Farms
Kayenta

Yearly
Consumption
(acre-feet)
520
80
34
,392
1,026

Number
of Services
479
62
72
281

This would be included in the estimated 1,560 acre-feet value shown in

Table 1 for 1979.

The town of Page pumps its water supply from Lake Powell at Glen Canyon

Dam. The water is treated and then metered to the residents. Effluent from

the Page Sewage Treatment Plant is discharged into lined stabilization ponds

and allowed to evaporate. Water meter readings were supplied by the Page

Town Manager. Water use values are shown in Table 1.

The National Park Service operates domestic water wells at Wahweap, a

recreational community on the shores of Lake Powell. The amounts of water

pumped from these wells are shown in Table 1. Part of the water was used

for landscape irrigation and a minute portion probably returned to Lake

Powell through deep percolation. The remainder of the pumped water was

used for domestic purposes by the residents, tourist3, and concessionaires.

Wahweap has a sewage treatment plant which terminates in evaporation ponds.
