.!' ..., t' 1
lllU,

have averaged 341,400 acre-feet per year for the period 1941-1970. No
significant reservoir storage for conservation purposes has been
developed in the South Platte River watershed during this period.
Flows of the South Platte River at North Platte averaged 250,100 acre-
feet per year during the same period.

Flows of the North Platte River at Lewellen, Nebraska, averaged
935,700 acre-feet per year during the 1941-1970 period. Flows of the
North Platte River at North Platte averaged 425,300 acre-feet per year
during the same period.

Flows of the North Platte River have been regulated by the Central
Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District's (CNPP&ID) Kingsley
Dam. Diversions at the Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) Korty
Diversion Dam near Paxton, Nebraska, reduce the flows of the South
Platte River. Downstream of North Platte, Nebraska, the CNPP&ID's
Diversion Dam diverts water to the supply canal for hydroelectric
generation and the irrigation of about 130,000 acres. Between Brady,
Nebraska, and Kearney, Nebraska, are seven diversions. Much of the
natural flow and storage water which these canals utilize is diverted
at the North Platte Diversion Dam and subsequently, returned to the
Platte River at either the Jeffery Return located downstream of Brady
or the Johnson Return located between Lexington and Overton.

Flows of the Platte River at Overton have averaged 847,000 acre-feet
per year during the period 1941-1970. Kingsley Dam was completed in
1941.

The historic flows of the North Platte River at Lewellen and S3uth
Platte River at Julesburg avesaged 912,200 acre-feet (1,260 ft Is)
and 335,500 acre-f~et (463.ft Is), respectively, during the p'eriod
1947-1970. The historic flows of the Platte River at Overton average
874,300 a3re-feet (1,207 ft3/s) and at Grand Island, 849,800 acre-feet
(1,173 ft Is) during the period 1947-1970.

Flows of the Platte River at Overton have been estimated using a
computer model developed by the Bureau of Reclamation which simulates
the operation of facilities located on and along the Platte River and
its tributaries between Lewellen, Julesburg, and Overton. Flows
assumed for the pre-Narrows conditions were represented by a "near
future condition" of development upstream of Lewellen and within the
modeled reach of the Platte River. Historical flows of the South
Platte River at Julesburg were assumed to represent the pre-Narrows
flow (USSR, 1976).

Exhibit 2 s'hows the average annual, January-April, and May-August
flows at various locations within the modeled area for the period
1947-1970 under the pre-Narrows condition.

2B
