'1
i

JOHN MARTIN RESERVOIR PERMANENT POOL SIMULATION
COMPACT YEARS 1949-73

COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD
November 11, 1974

(''":'.')

r::"l
W
~
C."

EXPLANATION OF COLUMNS

COMPACT MO Month 1 is November Month 7 is May
Month 2 is December Month 8 is June
Month 3 is January Month 9 is July
Month 4 is February Month 10 is August
Month 5 is March Month 11 is September
Month 6 is April Month 12 is October
COMPACT YR is the compact year.
AVG CONSV STORAGE AF is the average historic conservation storage
in John Martin Reservoir in acre-feet during the month.

PERM POOL INFLOW AF is permanent pool inflow or the state credit
water in acre-feet during the month that would have been delivered
to John Martin Reservoir in the state's transfer plan. These values
are slightly different from those in table 4 of the October 16, 1974,
summary because they were calculated on a monthly basis rather than
on an annual basis.

NET EVAPORATION AF is the monthly net evaporation from the permanent
pool in acre-feet. It was computed by applying 0.7 times the pan
evaporation less the precipitation to the additional area caused by
the average permanent pool. Values used for the pan evaporation and
precipitation are from NWS records when available and are shown in
the attached tables. The official November 1972 area-capacity was
used.

PERM POOL STORAGE AF is the permanent pool storage at the end of the
month. It was determined by adding the permanent pool inflow to the
last month's storage and deducting the evaporation. In this simula-
tion the maximum allowable size was 15,000 acre-feet except that the
flood control storage (storage above elevation 3,851 feet above MSL
or in excess of 350,951 acre-feet) could not be invaded in excess of
10,000 acre-feet.

PERM POOL AREA AC is the additional water surface area in acres
caused by adding the average permanent pool to the average conserva-
tion storage.

PERM POOL SPILL AF is the amount of water in acre-feet that had to
be spilled so that the permanent pool did not exceed its maximum
allowable size.
