POST OFFICE AND COURT HOUSE
OMAHA, NEBRASKA 68102

.

Mr. James M. Ingles
Director, Regional Office, Region 7
Building 20, Denver Federal Center
Denver, Colorado 80225

Dear Mr. Ingles:

Your letter of 13 March 1969 asked for updated flood control benefits
to be used in the reevaluation statement for the Narrows Unit, South
Platte Division, Colorado, Missouri River Basin Project.

The average annual equivalent flood control benefits for the Narrows
Unit, based on a 3.25 percent interest rate, would be $1,334,000 and
$1,599,000 under 50-year and lOO-year periods of analysis, respectively.
Under a 4.625 percent interest rate, these values would be $1,233,000
a.nd $1,398,000, respectively. The change from previous values is a
result of the increase in price levels to the December 1968 index and
the use of economic projections from the comprehensive basin framework
planning studies.

We ha.ve not completed our evaluation of the benefits for the diversion.
In a telephone conversation on 4 April 1969 between Mr. Augberg of your
staff a.nd Mr. Velehradsky of this office, it was decided tha.t the bene-
fits for the diversion would be forwarded at a later date.

.

Your lettera.lso asked for a report on the status of our studies in
the Bijou Creek basin. In Janumoy 1969, we separated our studies of
the Bijou Creek basin from the South Platte River investigation. An
interim report will be prepared and forwarded to our higher authority
for review by December 1969. Our studies to date indicate tha.t a system
of three dams in the Bijou Creek basin would be economically feasible.
Additional studies are being made on alternative systems.
