C"':l
---
_.

0';

c.

The land capability class, shown by roman numerals, expresses the severity
of the limitation (s) in use. As the class increases numerically, the
severity of the limitation (s) also increases. Land capability classes are
defined as follows:

Class I - Very good land sui table for cuI tt vatton wi th no limi tations
in use and suitable for all climatically adapted crops.

Class II - Good land sui table for cultivation having IlIOderate 11mi tations
in use but suitable for all climatically adapted crops.

Class III - Moderately good land sui table for cuI ti vation having severe
limitations in use and not suitable for all climatically
adapted crops.

Class IV - Fairly good land suitable only for occasional cultivation.

Class V to VIII are no t sui table for cu1 tt vatton.

The subclass expresses the general reason for the limitation in use, such as
e, erosion; s, soil; w, water; or c, climate. The unit reflects the specific
problem (s) requiring treatment.

The total acreage (8,240) of the project is tabulated by land capability units
and evaluation areas. Using the acreage listed in table 2, there are 746
acres in land capability class II; 2,837 acres in land capability class III;
4,163 acres in class IV; and 494 acres representing six percent of 8,240 for
roads, farmsteads, etc.

Table three shows the di stribution of project lands by land capabili ty uni ts
and evaluation areas.

Findings

Tabulated soil survey data includes approximately the same lands which the
Bureau of Reclamation proposes to include in the project.

Based on a complete soil survey inventory, it is concluded that the 8,240
acres of project land, less six percent (494 acres) for roads, farmsteads,
etc., is sui table for cultivation under irrigation.

- 10 -
