<br />.....- <br /> <br />THE WHITE HOUSE <br /> <br />WASHINGTON <br /> <br />August 3, 1973 <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Chairman: <br /> <br />I hereby approve the new principles and standards for planning <br />water and related land resources, as recommended in your <br />letter of July 24, 1973. <br /> <br />These new principles and standards will supersede criteria <br />currently in use by the executive branch for planning and evalu- <br />ating water resources development programs and projects. <br />They represent the culmination of se-veral years review by the <br />Water Resources Council to develop improved planning criteria <br />to achie',c Our goal of wise use of the Nation's water and related <br />land resources with full consideration to the protection of our <br />envi ronment. I commend the Water Resources Council for <br />accomplishing such a difficult task. <br /> <br />I understand that analysis of ways to assume more equitable <br />cost sharing by the beneficiaries of water resources projects <br />is underway.
