<br />002343 <br /> <br />5 <br /> <br /> <br />The Virgin City and Lower Gunlock reservoirs in the Dixie <br />project should be provided with adequate recreation facilities <br />for local use. The recreation facilities at the larger reservoir <br />(Virgin City) should be designed for considerable State, and some <br />national, use as well. Its location near Zion National Park makes <br />it suitable for supplementing the scenic attractions of the par~. <br />4It Many of the visitors to the park would use it for picnicking, camping, <br />swimming, fishing, and boating. <br />Recreation Demands in the Southern California Area <br /> <br />The State of California has recognized the fact that the <br /> <br />expected large future population growth, especially in Southern <br />California, will present an ever-increasing need for additional <br /> <br />outdoor recreation areas and facilities. <br /> <br />The State Park Commission feels that the Colorado River is <br /> <br />second only to the Sacramento River as a source of water recreation <br /> <br />opportunities for Californians. Proposals have been made for <br /> <br />acquiring or leasing land from the Federal Government and estab- <br /> <br />lishing three major parks and recreation areas along the Colorado <br /> <br />River in Southern California. In conjunction with Southern Cal- <br />4It ifornia I s present water-oriented recreation and the State,'s pro- <br /> <br />posed Castaic, Perris, and Cedar Springs Reservoirs, these parks <br /> <br />would help to meet the pressing needs for such recreation. <br /> <br />Recreation Benefits <br /> <br />The primary benefits that will result from the provision of <br /> <br /> <br />recreation facilities at reservoirs included in the Pacific Southwest <br />
