Cooperation with State fish and game <br /> <br />departments in various wildlife projects involving introQuction of new species <br /> <br />and propagation of species, such as bighorn sheep, is also taking place. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />In Nevada two 2, OOO~acre pastures near Panaca and Crystal Springs <br /> <br />have been segregated and actual grazing use and erosion data acquired,' 'l'he <br /> <br />project, supervised by the Soil Conservation Service, has resulted in the <br /> <br />development ofa record of use in excess of 20 years, Currently, arrange- <br /> <br />ments are being negotiated whereby these areas will be returned to BLM <br /> <br />. jurisdiction and the study continued by the Bureau in cooperatipn with the <br /> <br />U.niversity of Nevada. <br />A cooperative study to identify managemcmt alternatives for pi1i'on-' <br /> <br />. juniper woodlands is being conducted by the Bureau of Land -Managemen~ and <br /> <br />, . <br />the UtehState University. Four sites for this study have been designat'ld <br /> <br />within the basin. . <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Because of the critical water shortages in many parts of thebasinl <br /> <br />several agencies are devoting considerable research to water problem sr' <br /> <br />The Bureau will continue to exchange information with ,these agencies a~ <br /> <br />rely upon them to furnish 'research findings. BLM will cooperate with them <br /> <br />in providing funds and personnel where the public lands will benefit directly <br /> <br />,.nd where such.effortsare necessary to implement a much-needed program. <br /> <br />26 <br /> <br />
