Upon

completion of a project, actual management of the recreational

facilities is assumed by some agency other than Reclamation, and

in many cases a non-Federal agency. Usually, this agency

operates the facilities at its own expense and shares in the cost

of the recreational development, particularly, if the facilities

have been provided under the authority of the Federal Water Project

Recreation Act.

U. S. Army Corps of Engineers

The Corps of Engineers is primarily responsible

for the planning, construction, and operation of multiple-purpose

water resource development projects and has been authorized to

construct and operate recreation facilities at these water pro-

jects. Recreation facilities in new areas or around new projects

are constructed under provisions of the Federal Water Project

Recreation Act. Lands may be leased for concessionaire facilities

(marinas, etc.), b.ut the Federal Government does not financially

participate in the development of such "nonbasic" facilities.

In certain cases where a reservoir lies wholly or partially

within the boundaries of Federal land-managing agency lands,

responsibility for development and administration of recreation

facilities may be transferred to that agency.

IS

j" "
