He
was in New Orleans to attend a
meeting of the Arkansas-White-
Red River Basins Interagency com-
mittee, a group he helped to found.
Top-level officials from several
western states attended the funeral
lIervices at the First Congregational
church with the Rev. He
was found dead by a close friend,
John Bliss, state engineer for New
Mexico.
During his long lifetime of serv-
Ice to Colorado. Judge Stone made
8 major contribution to the com-
pletion of every interstate water
compact entered into by the state
l5ince 1937 when he was appointed
to the post he held at his death.
Upper Colorado, Rio Crande and
RepUblican river compacts were nIl
the result of Judge Stone's efforts
to guide Colorado to her fair share
of water.
He was a leading spokesman for
the states in the Upper Colorado
River basin in their fight with
California over t hat stl'eam's I
waters.
