The
Federal government would pay for 70 percent
of costs and the Lower Colorado River
Basin States and the Upper Colorado River
Basin States would pay for the rest from
power revenues generated by the Colorado
River Storage Project. No direct "out-of-
pocket" construction costs would be incurred by the
water users for cost-effective plans.

What would happen if a ditch were selected for
historic preservation? Such an event would not
affect the use or modification of a canal or lateral
in accordance with the National Historic
Preservation Act of 1966.

WHATfS NEW?

Currently, alternative solutions are being formulated and priced. Some solutions being studied include
lining canals and laterals, piping canals and laterals for sprinklers, and plugging saline wells or
evaporating their flows. Field monitoring of water flows and their salt content. ('.Qntinlles. We ne~d your
help to locate flowing saline springs or wells. If you are aware of any, please call us or write.

WHAT'S NEXT?

A preliminary findings memorandum will be prepared that will display any viable salt-reduction plans based
on information collected to date so that a decision can be made on whether to continue the study. The
information on the plans will be made available to interested individuals, and will be displayed at public
meeings or newsletters.

We appreciate your valuable comments on our concepts at the public meeting. Any help you can give us to
find cost-effective salt-reduction solutions will be appreciated.
