",.
-~

.

Introduction

The Upper Colorado is a region in which extractive activities

like agriculture and mining play an important role. Regarding the

percent of total regional earnings accounted for by mining and

agriculture, the Upper Colorado ranks 1st among the 20 Water

Resources Regions in mining (13.3 percent of regional earnings)

and 4th in agriculture (8. 7 percent of regional earnings).

I
tfb-~

,
,

Total Personal Income and Population (Chart 1)

Between 1968 and 2020 total personal incc::ne in the Upper

Colorado is exp,~cted to increase about 7 times -- ,from about

$.8 billion in 1968 to nearly $6 billion in 2020. This rate of in-

crease is considerably slower than the eight-and-one-half-fold

,it',

~fl~
tJ3~

rise projected for total personal income nationally.

During the same time period total population in the Upper

Colorado is expected to rise by less than 50 percent -- from 336

thousand to nearly 483 thousand. This rate of increase also is

much slower than the doubling projected for the Nation's total

population.

~:-~:,:'~~
~~t:~~:.
;~:{t:
~f~;!

.~ <- .
.;--~, -;..:>:~
"',' ."
