Both agriculture <br /> <br />and mining account for high percentages of total earnings. The Rio <br /> <br />::~~~;~{ <br /> <br />ii~~ <br /> <br />Grande ranks 5th among the 20 Regions in its reliance On agriculture <br /> <br />(8.7 percent of regional earnings) and 7th in mining (D). In addition, <br /> <br />this region ranks 3rd among the Water Resources Regions in the <br /> <br />percent of total regional earnings accounted for by armed forces <br /> <br />Total Personal Income and Population (Chart 1) <br /> <br />~^..,',.. <br />~l?ti <br />I':';':~" <br />.i~~}~~~ <br />~N:;_"":_ <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />(9.9 percent of regional earnings). <br /> <br />Between 1968 and 2020 total personal income in the Rio Grande <br /> <br />is projected to increase about 9 times -- from $4. 1 billion to $36.6 <br /> <br />billion. This rate of increase is faster than the eight-and-one-half <br /> <br />During the same time period total population in the Rio Grande <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />~i(~ <br /> <br />:.",..;0:,-."-'. <br />:*~~il <br /> <br />:.~- :.;.: ~ <br />ft>(};: <br />,~-:.:';t); <br /> <br />fold increase projected for total personal income nationally. <br /> <br />is expected to increase by nearly four-fifths -- from about 1.7 million <br /> <br />to about 3 million.
