20 Water Resources Regions in agricultural earnings and 3rd in

mining earnings. Regarding the percent of total regional earn-

Red ranks 6th among the 20 Regions in agriculture (7.2 percent

of regional earnings) and 2nd in mining (D). In addition, this

region ranks 6th among the Water Resources Regions in armed

forces earnings.

Total Personal Income and Population (Chart 1)

White-Red is projected to increase more than seven-fold - - from

nearly $19 billion in 1968 to about $140 billion in 2020. This rate

of increase is less than the eight-and-one-half-fold rise projected

for national total personal income.

During the same time period total population in the Arkansas-

White-Red is expected to increase by nearly two-thirds -- from

about 6.7 million to about 11. 1 million. National population is

expected to double between 1968 and 2020. Thus, population

growth is expected to be appreciably slower regionally than nationally.
