<br />7. COOPERATIVE STUDIES and ACTIVITIES <br />Article VIII.G,(l) of Arkansas River Compact requires the Administration <br />to cooperate with the chief official of each of the states of Colorado <br />and Kansas charged with the administration of water rights in their <br />respective states, and with the Federal agencies in svstematicallv <br />determining and correlating the facts pertaining to the flow and <br />diversion of the water of the Arkansas River and to the operation and <br />siltation of John Martin Reservoir and other related structures. Article <br />VIII.G.(2\ requests the Director of the United States Geological Survey <br />("USGS"). the Commissioner of the United States Bureau of <br />Reclamation, and the Chief of Engineers, United States Army, to <br />cooperate and collaborate with the Administration and with the <br />appropriate state officials in such determinations and correlations of <br />stream flow and related data, Under the By-Laws of the <br />Administration. these cooperative studies and activities are assigned to <br />the Engineering Committee of the Administration. <br /> <br />During the year covered by this report the Administration has received <br />excellent cooperation from all agencies referred to in the foregoing <br />provisions of the Compact. The USGS has continued the operation of <br />the compact gaging stations and the analysis of and compilation of the <br />hVdrologic data presented in this report and used in the administration <br />of the Compact, The USGS also reported to the Administration on a <br />variety of water resource studies it was conducting in the Arkansas <br />River Basin. The Corps of Engineers continued to operate the <br />conservation pool of John Martin Reservoir in accordance with the <br />terms of the Compact and the resolutions and orders of the <br />Administration. The Corps informed the Administration of its plan to <br />conduct new capacitv surveVs at John Martin and Trinidad Reservoirs <br />during _~~93. _The Corps also reported on the pending allocation of <br />excess space at Trinidad Reservoir and on channel capacity problems <br />along the Purgatoire River downstream of the City of Trinidad, <br /> <br />10 <br /> <br />UC~lnl <br />
