026 '? COLORADO DIVISION OF WILDLIFE COMMENTS
NARROWS UNIT
DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL STA TEMENT

We will limit our comments to those portions of the Narrows Project statement

that discuss or pertain to fish, wildlife and their habitats.

II-32-Fish and Wildlife Plans

We assume that the listed development plans are flexible which will not only allow

possible changes in the plans but will also permit development to proceed as

funds and manpower dictate.

We agree the fish hatcher,y should not be constructed until an adequate water

supply is assured. This statement should be clarified as this Division cannot

properly stock the reservoirs without an additional supply of fish. Many

factors will dictate which fish species will be stocked in the reservoirs but we

also asswne that both Jackson and Narrows Reservoirs will support a warm water

type fishery. Releases from the reservoir should improve the stream-fishery

below the dam. Here again, we will stock the species best adapted to the stream

habitat, hopefully trout.,

III-216-4 Fish and Wildlife

These appear to be logical conjectures as to what may occur in this area if the

project is not built.

IV-IS Biological and Water Quality

The eutcophication rate in Nar rows Reservoir will quite obviously be governed

by future water quality standards. The flow patterns into Narrows will be

different than those into the existing offstream reservoirs, i. e'. there will be

continuous flows including bottom flows, into Narrows Reservoir as opposed
