.,..,
~ A
co
00 ClllFTON
.... ~
0
0
. ;nIST.u~

Jonathan Tripp
August 11, 1993
Page two

Aqua-Chern can design, construct and operate a desalinization
plant in the Glenwood Springs area that is palatable to not only
the residents of Glenwood Springs but of Garfield County and the
State of Colorado.

The customers of the Clifton Water District are not your
constituents, but we are a part of the overall broad picture of
individuals benefitting from the water in the Colorado River and
would sincerely appreciate your support for a desalinization
plant for the waters that flow from the springs at Glenwood into
the Colorado River.

.

As stated above, we can certainly understand your feelings
and if we were in your shoes, would probably agree with your
opinion. However, we are not in your shoes, we are users of
water in the Colorado River below Glenwood Springs and put up
with too much salt in our drinking water.

The additional salt increases costs to our fruit growers
too. The calcium and magnesium left behind when irrigation water
evaporates from our orchards tie-up the iron from our fertilizer
requiring additional iron to be added to the soil. I understand
this additional iron costs the orchard men about $45 per tree
extra.

Should you require any additional information on our
concerns about salt in the river please do not hesitate to
contact us. We are very supportive of the desalinization project
and feel that we have another perspective on the salinity
situation which may earn your support for the project.

";f;:#~

Raymond J.
