1.

'.1.- '; <;73
.).- ,

POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT

There are several possibilities for using projeot water for muni-

cipal water supplies. The plan decided upon will depend on the municipali-
ties involved, since it is not anticipated at this time that the potential

project under consideration will make it a part of' the plans. However, wa-

ter will be available for the tOYnlS that want to make provisions for deliver-

ing their cwn supply.

BaUda

Salida is the first town affeoted below the junction point of the

Arkansas River and the transl!lountain canal. The transmountain oanal is 10-

cated at elevation 7.300, approxin~tely one mile west of' the city. It is

possible to oonstruct a purification plant at 7,250 so as to furnish the

town with a gravity flow. The town is looated at elevation 7.050. The maxi-

.....

= demand flow for the town based on the 50 year estimate would require a

12 inch welded steel pipe line approximately one mile long. A crossing for

the river would have to be made or else oarry it across on the railroad

bridge if such a method is possible.

The pipe line would cost $22,000. The total system. purif'ication

plant, and pipe line to the oity distribution system might cost a total of

$85,000, to furnish water at the rate of 1.680 acre-feet per year and the

maximum day of 250 percent the average day. The estimate used on the puri-

fication plant is based on an average f'igure of $30,000 per 1,000,000 gallon

capacity and using a future plant si~e of 2 million gallons per day~ The

following looation map shows the possible location of such a system.

The we.\; er furnished would have an average weighted hardness from

5 tc 5-1/2 grains p~r gallon. The present hardness is 9.11 as reported by

the Ba1ida Water Commissioner's offioe.
